Securus and Video Visitation

Criminal justice technology solutions giant, Securus Technologies is launching a promotion regarding the benefits of remote video visitation for U.S. inmates. They will be spending most of this month airing commercials show the importance of video visitation. Richard Smith, chairman and CEO of Securus, says the biggest winning point is that people can stream visits from the comfort of their own home instead of the outdated method which is having to drive to the jail for every visit. However, he said that there are many other benefits which the commercials will highlight.

The process enables incarcerated parents to have a daily participation in their childrens’ lives. Securus is doing this because although they provide the changes, they cannot make them unless the agencies choose to do them. There would be especially a good option during holidays so that inmates can share the festive occasions with their families. Securus is not suggesting scrapping the face to face visitation since many people would rather do them, they merely suggest adding the video visitation option. There promotion has already seen results long before this current commercial promotion push.

It is hoped that this current push will increase it. Where the two exist side by side, the video visitation is usually favored because it saves on travel time, transportation costs, jail check-in time, waiting in lines, and parking costs. In addition to the commercials, Securus also published some statistics about video visitation. The statistics stated that currently 178 U.S. agencies offer video visitation, that these video visitations saw 160,000 connections per month, 2,000,000 visits per year, with these numbers doubling every year.

To Securus, their services are more than just another way to make money. They are committed to make a real connection to separations during this time. For information about what they do visit SecurusTechnologies.com.
